Updates to site

We have made several updates to the site other the last couple of weeks and we just wanted to let everyone know about them. The updates are as follows:

  • The search results page has been updated with a new look for the top section of the page where the ‘refine search’ and result summary appears. The new look has been designed to make things clearer and more useable. We have also added a “sort results by” options to allow you to re-order the search results so you can find that special someone even quicker.
  • The “In Your Area” option on the members menu know only shows members in your area that are the gender you are looking for and that are looking for your gender. For example if you are man looking for a women, it will now only show you women looking for men in your area.
  • The “Viewed me” page now shows the location of the people that have viewed you.

We have more updates in the pipeline and we will of course update the blog when they are released. In the mean time if you have any requests leave a comment on the blog.

Facebook Like Button

We have just added a Facebook ‘Like’ button to all our dating advice articles so if you like one of the articles and want to tell your friends on Facebook about it, simply like the ‘Like’ button on the article page and if you already logged into the Facebook it will automatically share and if not, it will pop up a box for you to login. Simple.

Fixes and updates

Over the last couple of weeks we have made a couple of amendments and updates to the site and we want to share these changes with you:

1. The search process

About a week ago we introduced a new search facility to replace the old one, which fixed some of the problems with the previous version and is more user friendly. On the search results page there is now a “refine search” box at the top of the page (instead of in the left hand column) which shows ALL the options you have selected and allows you to change them to refine your search and help you find exactly what you are looking for, quicker and easier than before. These changes where based on the feedback from the members survey we carried out recently.

2. Login speed

Also about a week ago we managed to identify an issue that sometimes caused the login process to take 10 seconds or more and sometimes completely fail. This has now been fixed and we have monitored it and since applying the fix the issue has not occurred.

3. Postcode data

Today we have applied an update to the postcode data we previous had. The new data is far more complete than the previous data set and has been made possible by the Ordnance Survey OpenData project which went live on April 1st (see BBC News). We would like the thank Ordnance Survey for being forward thinking and making this extremely useful data openly available.

These are all the updates for now, more are to follow and we will update the blog as and when they are applied. All comments are very welcome.

New photo upload facility

As we said yesterday, one of the things that came out of the members survey was that many members had been having problems uploading their photos to the site. Today we have completely re-engineered the photo upload facility to hopefully be easier to use and more reliable. You can now upload up to five photos at the same time and we have added some extra error capturing detect any issues and let us you what the problem is (e.g. wrong file format, etc…).

The editing of uploaded photos remains the same, simple click the photo and a little menu will appear with options to allow you to make the photo your main photo, delete the photo or add a caption to the photo.

We hope this change is useful and makes that part of the site easier to use, please feel free to leave a comment.

Members Survey Results

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone that took the time to answer our members survey, the response was good and the data very helpful. We wanted to share with you some of the insights we gained and let you know about some of the things we are going to change in the coming weeks to address problems identified by the responses.

Overall most members were satisfied with the site (about 80%) and the majority of members visit at least two or more times a week. There was a general consensus that the sites appearance is good, with a small minority having a small issue with the colour palette used on the site.

The main issue raised by the survey was related to the search on the site. About half the members where satisfied with the search but the other half where either undecided or dissatisfied with the search.

Most respondents through the messaging system on the site was good and either “very easy” or “somewhat easy” to use.

The forums were another point of contention with respondents. Nearly half were “undecided” on how easy they are to use and only 18% having actually posted. The main two reasons for not posting in the in forums, accounting for 60% together, was they hadn’t found anything worth commenting on or that they did not understand what the forum is for.

In terms of service to members, the vast majority had never contacted CFD for assistance however of the members that had the vast majority were completely satisfied with the service they received and the time it took to get a response. The main reason for contacting CFD was for assistance in uploading photos to the their profile.

The main thing that respondents say they liked about the site was the fact it is truly free. In response to the question about what people like least there was a wide range of different responses, however many again mentioned the search and again in response to the question about what could be improved, the vast major of people mentioned the search process.

Based on the responses to the survey we are going to spend a considerable amount of time looking at the search process on the site. We have already identified a couple of issues and also have some changes that we hope will improve the user experience with the search. As soon as these changes have been released to the site we will let you know via the blog and forums.

We are also going to look at making the photo upload process simpler and add the ability to obtain photos from different sources, like a mobile phone and online photo sharing services. Again once this is released we will let you know via the blog and forums.

If you have anything more you would like to let us know, please leave a comment below or email us at questions@completelyfreedating.co.uk. Thanks.

New feature released

We have just released a new feature to the site that will allow you to do two new things in the “My Favourites” section. We have added two new buttons to each “favourite” in your list.

The first button is “Send a message” which lets you send a message directly to the member straight from the favourites list.

The second button is “Remove” which allows you to remove a profile from your favourites list.

More developments are on the way so keep an eye on the blog for the latest updates.
